Skateboarder faceplants - tells police Black men jumped him
Welp.
A Miami skateboarder who told police he was attacked by a group of black men is in trouble for lying.
Rene Betancourt, 22, woke up with two black eyes, a fractured skull and orbital bone and other lacerations after being knocked out July 7 and insisted he was the victim of an attempted mugging. Police believed him until they sawvideofrom a nearby surveillance camera.
“All we had from the beginning was three to four black males,” Napier Velazquez of the Miami Police Department told ABC. She added that the video “changed the entire investigation.”
Betancourt is shown skateboarding around a parking garage around 1am on the day of the alleged attack. After skating around by himself for a while he is shown slamming into a concrete wall and landing face-first on the cement floor of the parking garage.
Even if we take the MOST GENEROUS interpretation, that this dude suffered a massive concussion and was confused, the fact that his brain immediately went to “A bunch of Black guys jumped me” says a whole fucking lot.
I wonder how many folks got stopped and pulled in for questioning, because of this asshole’s lying.
I need to know what happened to my ability to be surprised by these kinds of stories. I actually default to needing receipts whenever I hear a “Black person did completely awful thing to random white person” news story.
