Georgia lawmakers want to outlaw assisted suicide | ajc.com
Via Other Stuff
State lawmakers introduced a bill Tuesday that would outlaw assisted suicide in the wake of a recent Georgia Supreme Court ruling that destroyed a long-running criminal case against members of a suicide group. House Bill 1114 would make it a felony to “knowingly and willfully” assist another person in committing suicide.
Meanwhile, in more enlightened and far more compassionate places:
Voters in Oregon and Washington have legalized doctor-assisted suicide, and Montana’s Supreme Court determined that assisted suicide is a medical treatment. We did have to battle for this
One of the interesting things is that considerably more people get the prescription than actually use it. People appreciate the knowledge that if their disease becomes unbearable they have a tool to deal with it. This gives them a freedom to live, rather than to worry about possible worst case scenarios.
